Once upon a time, when the Vikings first came to Breydon, the birds filled the sky with their songs, and roasted bittern was a popular dish.
Meanwhile, in the present, life on the marshes is at a low ebb. Great Aunt Ethel Matilda, the giant eel of Breydon water, can’t remember how to get back to the Sargasso Sea, and until she does, her nephews remain trapped in childhood. Two lonely children, local girl Amber, obsessed with Vikings, and Kamal the birdwatcher, try to help and find themselves embarked on an adventure that takes them back into the past, by means of Eric Knowlittle’s Viking amulet.
