In 14th Century Norfolk, Eglantine and Gertrude while away the weary hours digging peat for their venial overlords at the Abbey by telling tales of a mythical serpent and teasing a novice monk. But a vast and terrible storm is gathering over the marshes, someone moves an ancient stone, and a little dog falls down the hole and returns with a soft, warm and peculiar egg….
